The "district" is a term that is used in land registry and is usually as large as a district. In Krefeld, the districts are in most cases in the name and most of their area identical to the city and districts located on them. The reason for this is that the districts formed independent municipalities before the incorporation into Krefeld and were also retained as cadastral districts afterwards .
