List of high rise buildings in Calgary

Calgary is the largest city in Alberta , Canada , with a population of over one million. In the city, almost 60 buildings reach a height of more than 100 meters; the tallest of them is Brookfield Place, completed in 2017. It has 56 floors and is also the tallest of all high-rise buildings in Canada outside of Toronto . He replaced The Bow as the tallest skyscraper. At a height of 215 meters, the west tower of the Suncor Energy Center office complex isthe third tallest high-rise. It is followed by Eighth Avenue Place with a height of 212 meters. In 2019, at least seven high-rise buildings were under construction that should reach a height of more than 100 meters.

history

Calgary's age of high-rise buildings began with the completion of the Grain Exchange Building in 1910 and the Fairmont Palliser Hotel (1914). The first skyscraper in the city is the 20-story Elveden Center from 1960. On the one hand, construction activity declined in the early 1970s, and on the other hand, there was a sharp increase in the construction of high-rise buildings and skyscrapers between 1970 and 1990. These include the First Canadian Center and the Canterra Tower . The standstill in the first half of the 1990s was followed by a construction boom at the end of the decade, which continues to this day.
