With the incorporation of January 1, 1975 as the last incorporation into the city of Hamm , the city is one of the larger cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The second table shows the formerly independent municipalities in alphabetical order which (initially) were not incorporated into the city of Hamm but into another municipality.
