List of sculptures and reliefs at the Albertinum
The list of sculptures and reliefs at the Albertinum gives an overview of the bauplastischen elements (sculptures, reliefs, keystones) at the Albertinum in the Saxony state capital Dresden .
The Albertinum was built by converting the old armory into a museum in the years 1884 to 1889 by the master builder Adolf Canzler (1818–1903). The planning of the sculptural jewelry was carried out by Councilor Woldemar von Seidlitz (1850–1922), Ernst Julius Hähnel (1811–1891) and Georg Treu (1843–1921). Hahnel's designs were rejected as too learned and not generally understandable. The program relates to the main function of the building at that time - the presentation of the sculpture collection .
A competition was announced in 1891 for the gable crowning " Sculpture " at the main entrance to Brühlsche Terrasse, " Saxonia " on the side facing the Kurländer Palais and "Herrscherruhm" at the rear facing Salzstrasse, which the sculptors Rudolph Hölbe (1848–1926), Robert Ockelmann (1849 –1915) and Richard König (1863–1937) won. The completed gable crowns were erected in 1894/95.
The six sculptures (busts) in the laurel-wreathed round niches were created by Robert Diez (1844–1922), they represent the "art countries" Egypt, Greece, Roman Empire, Germany, Italy and France. The reliefs (three panels each) relate to antiquity or old pagan art (left side) and modern times or new Christian art (right side), also created by Robert Diez. The completion and installation took place in 1909.
The description of the artistic work follows the information provided by Stephan.
