A few weeks after the opening of Siegfried Bing's scandalous exhibition in his gallery called Hôtel de l'Art Nouveau, a delegation from Dresden appeared in Paris , headed by Privy Councilor Woldemar von Seidlitz, Director General of the Dresden Museums. At the International Art Exhibition in Dresden, which was imminent in 1897, they intended to include a department for arts and crafts and industrial art in the exhibition palace.

The aim of this innovation was to inform the German public about the renewal efforts in the field of applied arts and about the tendencies to raise the artistic level of the industrial arts. The four rooms designed and created for Bing in Paris by Henry van de Velde were to be set up again in Dresden. In addition, it should create a large 'relaxation room' for the visitors. Two large halls were made available for Constantin Meunier for an overall view of his work. The exhibition was a great success.

Von Seidlitz was also active as a patron, supported the Dresden museums by donating paintings and established numerous foundations. Von Seidlitz died in 1922 and was buried in the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden.
