List of stone busts at Kromsdorf Castle

In the garden of Kromsdorf Castle there are almost equidistant 64 stone busts on the garden wall in semicircular niches . They were created between 1670 and 1730.

In recent years Gunter Braniek (1995) and Martha Kuhl-Greif (2002) have tried to assign the busts to people. For this purpose, mainly the four image sources mentioned below from the time of creation were evaluated. This assignment is not clear. Historical sources from the client are still missing. The busts are numbered clockwise: No. 1 to 21 in the east wall, No. 22 to 32 with the south gate and No. 33 to 43 in the south wall, No. 44 to 64 in the west wall. The brass plates attached to the stone busts show personal details that differ in part from this list and those of Braniek and Kuhl-Greif.

The 64 people can be tentatively assigned to the following subject groups: Emperors (6), protagonists of the Thirty Years War (15) and the siege of Vienna in 1683 (8), contemporaries of the lord of the palace, Duke Wilhelm Ernst (Saxony-Weimar) (7), depictions of women (8 ), Exotic (15) and five individuals.
