List of stumbling blocks in Wittlich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of the stumbling blocks in Wittlich results by artist Gunter Demnig laid stumbling blocks in the Rhineland-Palatinate district town of Wittlich , which remind those people of the fate that the Nazis murdered, deported, were expelled or driven to suicide.

In January 2009, the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group in the Wittlich city council applied for stumbling blocks to be laid in the city. A few months later this request was withdrawn because the group said that no proper debate was possible. Other private initiatives to move stumbling blocks on the city's property were also unsuccessful. On February 22, 2014, Demnig laid two stumbling blocks in the courtyard of the Wittlich correctional facility , the property of which belongs to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, in the presence of the Rhineland-Palatinate Justice Minister Jochen Hartloff . The laying of the Stolperstein in Wittlich on the "soil" of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate was initiated in spring 2014 after years of preparation by the Georg-Meistermann-Gesellschaft, Wittlich, after there were no possibilities to lay them on the grounds of the city of Wittlich.
