The old rectory was built in 1637 by order of the provost Simon Meier (1635–1665) of the Augustinian canons of Ranshofen . In 1972, after the construction of a new parsonage in the center of Gilgenberg, the old parsonage was sold and has since been left to decay.

The chapel was commissioned by Provost Ivo Kurzbauer at the end of the 17th century on the occasion of the eight hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Palatinate Chapel of St. Pankraz in Ranshofen next to the old rectory and has had the status of a branch church since 1784.
