The town of St. Veit's raft furnace was built in 1578 as the first blast furnace in Austria. The first box blower in Carinthia was installed here in 1793 . In 1801 the raft furnace went to the Löllinger Union. In 1834 the plant was shut down. The hut building and the cabbage bar are built together at the gable end. The raft furnace is attached to the outer wall of the hut building. The two-story building, originally made of slate gneiss, has brick cloister and barrel vaults inside. The walls are still around six meters high. The entire system is still identical in principle to the building erected in 1578. The raft furnace with the buildings surrounding it is the oldest surviving blast furnace.
