List of the largest diamond producers
The list of the largest diamond producers shows tables and graphs with precise information on the subject of diamonds .
overview
In 2009, 121.3 million carats of natural diamonds (jewelry and industrial diamonds) were mined (2008 = 165.2 million carats). Compared to the previous year, the decrease is 26.6 percent. According to the British Geological Survey, the highest level of world production was reached in 2006 at 176.9 million carats. The major producers of natural diamonds in 2009 were Russia (34.8 million carats), Democratic Republic of the Congo (21.3 million carats), Botswana (17.7 million carats), Angola (13.8 million carats) and Canada (10.9 million carats) Million carats). These five states together had a share of 81.2 percent of world production.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), 4,550 million carats of synthetic diamonds were produced in 2008 (2007 = 4,550 million carats). The largest producers were the People's Republic of China (4,000 million carats), the USA (261 million carats), Russia (80 million carats), Ireland (60 million carats) and South Africa (60 million carats). These five states together had a share of 98.0 percent of world production.
The USGS estimated the eligible reserves of industrial diamonds in 2010 at 580 million carats worldwide. The Democratic Republic of the Congo accounted for 25.9 percent, Botswana for 22.4 percent, Australia for 16.4 percent, South Africa for 12.1 percent and Russia for 6.9 percent. In Europe there is an occurrence near Arkhangelsk .
The world production of natural diamonds (for example by De Beers and the Rio Tinto Group ) no longer covers the needs of industry by far. Only 23 percent of the diamonds produced were natural diamonds, 77 percent synthetically produced diamonds whose properties such as toughness, crystal habit, conductivity and purity can be precisely determined. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the demand for jewelry diamonds in particular has increased, so that prices have increased several times. The main sales markets for jewelry diamonds are the USA (48 percent), East Asia (20 percent), India and the Middle East (15 percent), and Europe (10 percent).

Industrial diamond reserves
The United States Geological Survey offers the following definition of this: The reserve base is that part of an identified resource that meets the specific minimum physical and chemical criteria for current mining and production practices, including those for grade , Quality , thickness and depth . The reserves are that part of the supply base that could be economically extracted or produced at a given time. The term does not have to mean that extraction systems are installed and working. Reserves only contain exploitable substances.
The countries with the highest production and the highest reserves in tons are listed. The publication of data on the stock base was discontinued in 2009.
