List of steam plow locomotives in Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

General

This is a list of steam plow locomotives in Germany without claim to be exhaustive, as the current sources do not allow this.

In addition, there are only fragmentarily preserved specimens in museum depots and other places in Germany that have not yet been recognized or recorded as such. Only a few of the machines that were once so important for agriculture have survived, some of which are also in a very poor condition. Locomotives that have been partially dismantled or have been severely attacked by corrosion are also included, as they are significant sources of technical history despite their condition.

In contrast to the rail-bound steam locomotives, steam plow locomotives were generally not assigned company numbers by the operators. The manufacturers seldom produced steam plow locomotives of different types at the same time, which is why the machines were often given no type designations. In this respect, despite the fact that the design has often barely changed over the decades, one can speak of generations, with German manufacturers often producing only a few copies within the individual generations.

Each steam plow locomotive was part of a steam plow set. Such a workable set of steam plows , formerly also referred to as steam plows, mostly consisted of two self-propelled steam plow locomotives, which were initially equipped with a cable winch that was initially arranged vertically and later only horizontally under the steam boiler. These sets, which were delivered in pairs, can still be read from the adjacent serial numbers on the copies that have been preserved. For example, the A. Heucke steam plow locomotives, which are now housed in different locations, formed a set with serial numbers 425/1915 and 426/1915, which was completed by a tilting plow, a team car and two water cars. There was also a team of up to twelve people.

The locomotives that have been preserved are listed below in the chronological order of their creation.
