history

The municipality of Eschach can look back on a long and varied historical past. Eschach is an ancient settlement area, which is proven by the numerous finds and testimonies of the various settlement periods. B. from the Middle and Neolithic, also from the Celtic and from the time of the Alemannic conquest in the 8th century. The courtyards were probably built around this time. Settlement began on a larger scale under the Hohenstaufen emperors in the 12th century. After that, the Counts of Öttingen were mainly the landlords in Eschach. In 1359 they sold all their rights and property to the Counts of Hohenrechberg . The Lorch Monastery , the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd and the Counts of Adelmannsfelden also had estates in Eschach. The Limpurg Schenk gradually acquired the entire property of the municipality by 1586. With the Rhine Federation Act of 1806, Eschach and its suburbs fell to the Württemberg Kingdom . With the establishment of the Oberamtsbezirke in 1807, Eschach and Seifertshofen were added to the Oberamt Gaildorf, the other sub-districts Gmünd. These also fell to Gaildorf a year later . In 1938 Eschach was finally assigned to the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd with all of its districts. Eschach has been part of the Ostalb district since the district reform in 1973 and, together with the communities of Göggingen , Iggingen , Leinzell , Obergröningen and Schechingen, forms the Leintal- Frickenhofer Höhe community administration association . In the Peasant Wars (1525 to 1535) the rebellious peasants were thrown down and severely punished, often executed immediately. During the Thirty Years' War from 1618 to 1648, marching through troops of friends and foes, which was mostly associated with looting, murder and pillage, was the order of the day. In its wake, the terrible war also brought price increases, famine and the plague . After the end of the war, the Eschach population had decimated and it took years until the war damage was finally eliminated. The two terrible world wars of the 20th century also left their mark on Eschach. At the end of the war the community still had 900 inhabitants. At that time the population was mainly engaged in agriculture and local handicrafts. After the war, many displaced people found a new home in Eschach. They too had their share in the general development of the community and in the economic boom. The development of new residential and commercial areas and the creation of additional public facilities turned an agricultural community into an attractive residential community. Today 1817 inhabitants live here ( as of December 31, 2009 ), many of whom work in the local businesses or in the neighboring communities and cities.

Religions

After the introduction of the Reformation , Eschach was predominantly evangelical . The Protestant parish of Eschach has been part of the Schwäbisch Gmünd church district since 1951 .
