The Agroneum Alt Schwerin ( Mecklenburg Lake District ) is an agricultural history open-air museum that focuses on Mecklenburg's estate and agricultural history from 1848 to the present day. Founded in 1963 under the name of Agrarmuseum Alt Schwerin , it was given the current name "Agroneum Alt Schwerin" in 2012 as a result of extensive renovation work and a new image campaign.

concept

When the Agroneum was founded in 1963, the entire village of Alt Schwerin was included. In the former manor village, parts of the old manor complex have been preserved to this day, including the manor house (today a senior citizens' home) with an English-style park, the manager's house (now a residential building and daycare center ), farm buildings and stables. Residential buildings for farmers and day laborers have also been preserved: a reapers barracks from 1904 and farm workers' cottages (stone cottages) that were built around 1870.

When the museum was founded on June 30, 1963, the decision was made to set up a decentralized open-air museum in the middle of the village. In the course of time, various buildings in other locations were removed for the facility and rebuilt on the open-air site, e.g. B. a village forge from Marxhagen , a tire forge from Herzfelde ( Uckermark ), a windmill ( Erdholländer ) from Jarmen or the Wittenbornkate from Wittenborn ( Pasewalk district ).

The Agroneum has an extensive collection of agricultural-historical work tools and machines, furniture, school and teaching materials, everyday objects and much more. A special feature is the original GDR exhibition "5000 Years of Agriculture in Mecklenburg" from 1988 in the Schnitter barracks. It was preserved as a “museum within a museum” and gives a good insight into the social and political situation in the GDR at the end of the 1980s .

The Agroneum regularly organizes events, including the International Steam Meeting (every two years) and the Oldtimer and Tractor Meeting (annually) in Alt Schwerin.

Sponsorship

The Agroneum has changed its sponsorship several times in recent years. After the fall of the Wall , the museum was initially subordinate to the former Müritz district and later to the Mecklenburg Lake District. Since July 1, 2015, the Agroneum has been part of the newly founded Mecklenburgische Seenplatte GmbH (WMSE) economic development agency. The Heinrich Schliemann Museum in Ankershagen and the 3 Königinnen Palais in Mirow are also subordinate to the WMSE, whose managing director is Sabine Lauffer .

Support association

In 1995 the non-profit association "Patrons and Friends of the Agricultural History Museum Alt Schwerin eV" was founded. In 2014 the name was changed to "Supporters and Friends of AGRONEUM Alt Schwerin eV"
