Lister Medal 1930

The Lister Medal ( Lister Medal ) is a prize of the Royal College of Surgeons of England for services to the surgery . It is named after Joseph Lister . After Lister's death, money was raised to honor his memory (Lister Memorial Fund) and the award was initially awarded by the Royal Society but administered by the Royal College of Surgeons from 1920 onwards. The award committee includes representatives from the Royal Society, the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow .

The prize is awarded to surgeons of all nationalities and was originally awarded every three years, but now also at longer intervals. It is associated with a sum of money and a bronze medal and, since 1984, a gold medal. The award winner gives a lecture (usually the following year), the Lister Oration or Lister Memorial Lecture . They were published in the British Medical Journal until 1948 and then in the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons (and some separately as books).

The prize was first awarded in 1924. There were 27 award winners by 2015.
