Literature Festival Lower Saxony

The literary festival Lower Saxony is one of the VGH Foundation oriented literary festival , which takes place annually in September.

The around 30 events of the festival take place mainly in the rural regions of Lower Saxony and Bremen and are carried out in cooperation with the VGH regional directorates and other local partners such as libraries, literary offices and cultural offices. Every year the literature festival is devoted to a different major topic. Almost all events are world premieres . Authors meet, various interlocutors are invited on selected topics and text collages are created especially for the festival and read by actors and voice actors . A special feature is the Texts & Tones series in which music that matches the texts is played, sometimes even composed especially for it. The responsible director of the literature festival is (as of 2019) Susanne Mamzed.

Artist

Over 500 artists have already participated in the programs of the Lower Saxony Literature Festival. Among them well-known writers like Günter Grass , Feridun Zaimoglu or Karen Duve , renowned actors like Devid Striesow , Jens Harzer , Mechthild Großmann , Hans-Werner Meyer or Thomas Sarbacher , voice actors like Christian Brückner , Oliver Rohrbeck and Detlef Bierstedt or poets like Thomas Gsella or Bas Böttcher , as well as numerous other well-known artists, journalists, scientists, but also young up-and-coming writers, young actors and young musicians.

The venues for the festival's author readings and panel discussions are adapted to the respective festival theme every year. Many programs are specially developed for the country's venues. This means that the literature festival is both a top-class cultural program and a journey of discovery through Lower Saxony. The venues already included a ferris wheel , a beach volleyball stadium, historic railways and ships , courtyards , courts of law , numerous palaces and castles and many other special places in Lower Saxony .

The Lower Saxony Literature Festival is a themed festival. In line with the Lower Saxony Music Days , the focus is on a different concept every year, for which dramaturges create exclusive collages .

VGH Foundation

The VGH Foundation was established in 2000 by VGH Insurance as a private foundation under civil law. The aim of the foundation is to support projects in the fields of science, culture - here with a focus on monument preservation, literature, visual arts, museum education - and charity in the business area of ​​VGH Insurance. All projects are carried out together with the regional directorates of VGH Insurance and the Historic Landscapes.
