Lithocarpus encleisacarpus is aspecies of tree from the species-rich genus Lithocarpus inthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia . The nuts are edible.

features

Lithocarpus encleisacarpus is an evergreen tree .

The fruit cup (cupula) is pot-shaped. It encloses four fifths of the nut . It opens slightly from above into uneven flaps. Two to three thread-like, wavy, horizontal lines run along its surface.

Systematics

The Dutch botanist Pieter Willem Korthals described the species in 1844 and classified it as Quercus encleisocarpa in the genus of oaks ( Quercus ). In the following decades there were several proposals to assign the species to another genus:

The Danish botanist Anders Sandøe Ørsted assigned it in 1866 as Cyclobalanus encleistocarpa of the genus Cyclobalanus ; the English botanist James Sykes Gamble chose the name Pasania encleisocarpa in 1915 . In 1916 the Japanese botanist Gen'ichi Koidzumi assigned the species as Synaedrys encleisocarpa again differently; the German-American botanist Alfred Rehder put the species in 1919 as Castanopsis encleisocarpa in the genus of the pseudo- chestnut ( Castanopsis ).

With her description published in 1931, the French botanist Aimée Antoinette Camus finally assigned the species to the genus Lithocarpus under the current taxon Lithocarpus encleisacarpus .
