Anders Sandøe Ørsted [ ˈœrsdɛð ] (born June 21, 1816 in Rudkøbing , † September 3, 1872 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish botanist and zoologist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Oerst. "

Life

Ørsted was the son of the merchant Jacob Albert Ørsted (1780-1829) and his wife Petronelle Catherine (nee Bang, 1781-1845). According to Matthias Bath , he is said to have been the son of Hans Christian Ørsted and his wife Inger Birgitte Ballum. Already in 1820 he came into the care of his uncle Anders Sandøe Ørsted , with whom he grew up. He became a student in 1835 and a master's degree in 1844. In 1842 he published his book "Observations on the Distribution of Vegetation in the Oresund ". From 1845 to 1848 he toured Central America and the West Indiesand brought home a large collection of previously unknown plants. At the University of Copenhagen he became a lecturer in botany in 1858 and professor in 1862. Most of his work consisted of identifying the crops he was collecting. But he discovered almost simultaneously with Anton de Bary host exchange of parasitic living fungi .

His records, which concern the marine algae of West India, which in his opinion formed the basis of food for marine animals, received little attention in his time. But they formed the basis for later plankton research .

Ørsted was married to Frederikke Christiane (née Gebhard, 1838-1914) since August 3, 1858. She was the daughter of the country surgeon Friedrich Christian Gebhard (1788-1838) from Langeland and his third wife Hanne Sophie (nee Krøyerm 1801-1882).
