Matthias Bath

Matthias Bath (* 1956 in West Berlin ) is a German lawyer , author , former escape helper at the Berlin Wall and politician ( CDU , Rep , FDP , AfD ).

Life

Bath was born in 1956 as the son of former GDR citizens. He is the son of the former state school board of Berlin Herbert Bath. From 1975 Bath acted as an escape helper at the Berlin Wall . In April 1976 he was arrested by the GDR border troops at the Helmstedt-Marienborn border crossing and taken to the Hohenschönhausen Stasi prison. In September of the same year he was sentenced by the Frankfurt (Oder) district court to five years in prison in Rummelsburg . In the course of a prisoner exchange in 1979 he was able to leave East Berlin early. In 2003 he was the second chairman of the Friends of the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial .

He studied law at the Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate in 1988 with a thesis on self-defense and emergency escape from the GDR to Dr. jur. Bath works as a public prosecutor at the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office .

He was initially a member of the Junge Union and the CDU . In the 1990s he was a member of the Berlin State Association of Republicans , for which he compiled the documentary The Republicans in the GDR and East Berlin: Documents of Oppression (1990). He was also a founding member of the right-wing extremist Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben Bildungswerk .

He was a speaker at the 38th Political Academy of the right-wing extremist working group for democratic politics , which took place from October 17th to 19th, 2003 in Riegersburg .

He was a speaker in the Conservatism Library on several occasions . On October 1, 2013 he presented his book Danebrog against the Swastika - The Resistance in Denmark 1940-1945 , on April 16, 2015 he gave a lecture under the title Revolutionaries for Germany - The “New Right” in West Berlin 1965–1985 .

On November 18, 2015, he took part in the panel discussion Failed? With Hans-Jürgen Papier , Rainer Schröder , Falco Werkentin and Hans-Hermann Lochen . - The legal processing of the SED injustice of the state commissioner for the Stasi documents in Berlin in cooperation with the Forum Law and Culture in the Court of Appeal and the Robert Havemann Society .

On August 9, 2016, he gave a lecture on the subject of Berlin - A Biography in the Memorial Library in honor of the victims of communism . The divided city .

After his membership in the FDP, where he worked in the state statute committee of the FDP Berlin, he has been a candidate and board member of the AfD in Berlin-Reinickendorf since 2016 .

He is a supporter, interviewee and author of the new right weekly newspaper Junge Freiheit .

He was also the author of the magazine Mut .
