The Little Bighorn River is a right tributary of the Bighorn River in the United States . It flows through the states of Wyoming and Montana and is famous for the Battle of Little Bighorn , which took place on June 25, 1876 about five miles south of Crow Agency in Montana on the east bank. This was one of the few major Indian victories against the US Army.
The river has its source in the far north of Wyoming, on the northern edge of the Bighorn Mountains . It then flows north to Montana, through the Crow Indian Reservation, past the Crow Agency settlement and finally flows into the Bighorn River near the town of Hardin .
The river has a length of 222 km and drains an area of 3350 km². The mean discharge at the mouth is 7.8 m³ / s. The largest monthly outflows occur in June. The towns of Wyola , Lodge Grass , Garryowen and Crow Agency are located on the river .
