Live is the second live album by the German heavy metal band Running Wild . It was recorded on the tour for the album " The Brotherhood " in 2002 and also released on DVD .

Occasionally the album is also referred to with the titles "Live 2002" or "The Brotherhood Live".

Emergence

The tour for "The Brotherhood" took place from March 20 to 30, 2002 and included nine concerts in Germany; The power metal band Rebellion played in the opening act . Days off were March 25th and 29th. The recordings for the album took place on March 30, 2002 at the last concert of the tour in the Gartlage hall in Osnabrück .

In contrast to the cast of the album, Matthias Liebetruth played as drummer in place of the controversial Angelo Sasso. Liebetruth, who played with the hard rock band Victory in 1996 , even performed a drum solo titled “Metalmachine” every time he performed. Guitarist Bernd Aufermann, who is known as a member of the band Angel Dust , was also part of the party.

The live recordings were mixed and edited by Rolf "Rock 'n' Rolf" Kasparek . The album was released on November 28, 2002 via GUN Records as a double CD in a digipack and as a single DVD. The live album reached number 100 in the German album charts.

The album cover, identical for CD and DVD version, shows a live photo of the band as well as the cover image of "The Brotherhood" placed next to the band's lettering.

Origin of the songs

The songs played at the concert cover practically the entire career of the band. The songs come from the following albums:

Overall, all studio albums with the exception of " Branded and Exiled " (1985) and " Masquerade " (1995) were taken into account. However, the song "Purgatory" is not included on any studio release, but it was part of the program as on the first live album " Ready for Boarding ". "Metalmachine" is a solo for drums.

Criticism and reception

After harsh criticism of "The Brotherhood" and especially the sterile production and the presumed drum computer "Angelo Sasso", Götz Kühnemund from Rock Hard rated the live album as progress and praised the selection of songs:

"See, it works! When Running Wild Chief Rock 'n' Rolf steps on stage with a real flesh-and-blood drummer and lets his guitar thunder out of real, room-filling boxes, the songs on the last album "The Brotherhood" suddenly sound really good! [...] The older classics are cleverly woven into the current program and perfectly round off the overall picture, which also includes "Victory" and "The Rivalry" material. That's exactly how your fans want to hear you, Rolf! "

- Götz Kühnemund

Herbert Chwalek from powermetal.de also received the live album positively , but also criticized it:

"[...] The sound is really top notch and brings out the songs damn well. […] It is clear that some beloved classics are not included with a good 100 minutes, I can definitely live with the selection. [...] I still have two points of criticism. On the one hand, the booklet is designed absolutely loveless, a few more photos of the optically interesting live show of the band would certainly not have hurt, on the other hand, Rolf's announcements are pretty monotonous or, to put it profanely, absolutely boring. Despite these two flaws, "Live 2002" is an extremely strong live album that impressively closes the mouths of all doubters and critics who have long since written off Running Wild. "

- Herbert Chwalek

On the 2006 compilation “Best of Adrian”, which only contains material released by the band on GUN Records, the songs “Under Jolly Roger” and “Bad to the Bone” are included in the live version of this album, as the original albums published by Noise Records . A curiosity, however, is that the song “Welcome to Hell” was included as a live version on the best-of album in addition to the studio version and is therefore actually included twice.
