Lizzi Natzler

Lizzi Natzler (birth name: Alice Maria Natzler ; born September 7, 1909 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † January 26, 1993 in Los Angeles ) was an Austrian actress and singer .

Life

Alice Maria Natzler came from an old theater family. She was the daughter of the actor and singer Leopold Natzler and the younger sister of the actress Grete Natzler and the cousin of the actor Alfred Reginald Natzler, known as Reggie Nalder . Lizzi Natzler began her artistic career in 1928 in her hometown of Vienna. From the beginning she worked both in theater and in film. Mostly she was cast on the screen as the nice girl next door in romantic comedies and everyday stories, but never got beyond supporting roles. In 1930 the artist moved to Germany . She got an engagement as a singer at the Hamburg Operettenhaus , but at the same time also appeared at the New Operetta Theater in Leipzig . In 1931 she came to Berlin and played at the Meinhard Bernauer Theaters, among others. Lizzi Natzler also received a few film roles in the German capital.

As a result of the National Socialist seizure of power , the Jewish woman temporarily returned to Vienna in 1933. After a small role in a Joseph Schmidt film, Lizzi Natzler was largely unemployed. Together with her younger sister Herta and their mother Emilie Natzler, she emigrated to the USA in August 1937. There she married the American citizen Manuel Tortosa and lived in Los Angeles as Litzie M. Tortosa until her death in 1993. The former actress never returned in front of the camera.
