Leopold Natzler (born June 17, 1860 in Vienna ; † January 3, 1926 there ) was an Austrian actor and operetta singer ( baritone ).

Life

Leopold Natzler was the son of a men's tailor. He first worked in the banking business, but then embarked on a theater career and appeared in public for the first time in Vienna in 1879 . He then played in Marburg , Oldenburg and at the Friedrich Wilhelmstädtischen Theater in Berlin . After various guest appearances at Austrian provincial theaters, he was engaged in Graz from 1884–1886 and as a young comedian in Brno from 1886–1888 . 1888-1891 it belonged to the Theater an der Wien in, 1891-1893, he was the first to youthful singing comedian at the Theater in der Josefstadt and was 1893 by A. Müller (-Guttenbrunn) , founded on the newly Raimund Theater obliged when he worked mainly in chanting and folk plays until 1901.

He said goodbye to his audience in the role of the tailor Würmerl in Karl Costa's popular play Brother Martin , which he created at the premiere (1895) and has since played almost 200 times , which was also his greatest success as an actor. Natzler was "one of the last representatives of a warm-hearted, burlesque Thaddädl " -Komik that - in favor of a stronger public action - has not always been entirely free from exaggeration. The highlights of his playing were always the pointed and extremely spirited couplets . After leaving the Raimund Theater, he initially only gave guest performances, then was engaged at the Carl Theater in 1902/03 and from 1903 at the Theater an der Wien, where he mainly played comic operetta roles. However, he soon withdrew completely from the stage and only appeared as a lecturer.

Natzler wrote his lecture pieces, couplets and songs ( The most beautiful hour of my life , once back and forth ) himself; his specialty was Quodlibets , of which the Johann Strauss Quodlibet was the best known. In addition, erb also composed dances and marches ( Kaiserjäger march ). In 1906 he and his brother Siegmund Natzler founded the cabaret “Die Hölle”, a small theater in the basement of the Theater an der Wien, which enjoyed great popularity and became a foster home for cabaret . In 1911 the brothers also leased the “ Venice in Vienna ” summer theater in the Prater , but had to terminate the contract early due to financial difficulties. Natzler's first marriage was with the coloratura singer Toni Rudolf and his second marriage with the actress Lilli Meißner . His sister, Regine Natzler (born November 24, 1866) was also an actress.

Leopold Natzler was the father of the actresses Lizzi Natzler , Herta Natzler and Grete Natzler . He was the uncle of the actor Reggie Nalder .
