Siegmund Natzler (born September 7, 1862 in Vienna ; died August 12, 1913 there ) was an Austrian operetta singer ( baritone ), actor , director and theater director .

Life

Siegmund Natzler, son of master tailor Ignaz Natzler and his wife Josepha geb. Funk, first worked as an accountant and correspondent in a wholesaler in Vienna, but then took up the acting profession. In 1883 he made his debut at the Gray Theater in Vienna . He then had engagements in Znaim , Laibach , Bad Ischl , Troppau , Graz and Augsburg . From the 1889/90 season until 1893 he was engaged as a young comedian at the Brno City Theater. In 1894 he was brought to the Carl-Theater in Vienna by theater director Karl Blasel , where he was widely acclaimed until 1900, especially in comic operetta roles. From 1902 to 1906 he worked as an actor - mainly engaged in operettas and singing - and chief director at the Theater an der Wien . He appeared in several world premieres of operettas by Franz Lehár and Edmund Eysler , including in October 1902 in Lehár's operetta The Tourist Guide and in February 1903 in Eysler's operetta Brother Straubinger . In the legendary world premiere of Lehár's operetta The Merry Widow , he sang the role of the Pontevidrian ambassador, Baron Mirko Zeta, on December 30, 1905 at the Theater an der Wien. As a director at the Theater an der Wien, he oversaw a large number of important operetta productions from those years, such as Lehár's Wiener Frauen in 1904.

Natzler's repertoire included operettas, Viennese antics , comical spoken pieces, but also classical drama. He appeared in operettas by Jacques Offenbach (General Bum-Bum in Die Großherzogin von Gerolstein ), Johann Strauss (valet Josef in Wiener Blut ), Carl Millöcker , Richard Genée (Muno in Der Seekadett ) and in the works of numerous other composers of the so-called " Silver Age of the Viennese Operetta ”.

In 1906 he founded the cabaret Die Hölle together with his brother Leopold Natzler .

Siegmund Natzler was his first marriage to the actress Ernestine Wolf, then his second marriage to the actress Ida Natzler , née until his death . Married young. He is the father of actor Reggie Nalder .
