Login Geiden ( Russian Логин Петрович Гейден , * August 26 jul. / 6. September  1772 greg. Or Aug. 26 jul. / 6. September  1773 greg. In Zuidlaren , † October 5 jul. / 17th October  1850 greg . in Reval ) was a Russian admiral of Dutch descent and governor of Reval.

Life

Leutnant zur See Heiden, whose original Dutch name Lodewijk Sigismund Vincent Gustaaf was Count van Heiden, fled to Russia in 1795 for political reasons. Entering the rank of lieutenant captain in Russian service, he was deployed in the Black Sea Fleet . In the squadron of Admiral Ushakov served Heiden from 1799 and took up the battles in the Mediterranean French part. In 1803 he switched to the Baltic Fleet , served at the naval cadet school of the Russian Navy and then at the Admiralty . In 1808 Heiden commanded a galley squadron in the Gulf of Finland , was involved in several battles with Swedish galleys and was promoted to sea captain because of his merit . In 1812 he led galley flotillas and transported troops from Finland to Reval and Narva . Heiden took the flotilla from Reval to Gdansk in 1813 , took part in the sea-side bombing of French batteries and fortifications and on April 28 and August 12 in skirmishes with French and Danish ships trying to penetrate the fortress. On August 27, 1817 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and he was ordered to the Admiralty in Saint Petersburg .

In June 1827, Heiden was at the head of a nine-ship squadre and went to England to unite with the Anglo-French squad that was supposed to support the Greeks who rose up against the occupation of their country . Arrived in the Mediterranean, Heiden commanded a squadron of the Imperial Russian Navy in the Battle of Navarino . On November 9, 1827 he was made Vice Admiral and awarded the Order of St. George, third class. Finally, on December 6, 1834, Heiden was promoted to admiral and appointed as military governor of Reval. In 1838 he also became the chief commander in chief of the Reval harbor. When Heiden died in 1850, he was buried in the Lutheran Church on Domberg .

family

Heiden was married to Anna Maria Akeleye, the daughter of Johan Akeleye, a native of Denmark and a naval officer in the Russian service. They had six children. The eldest son, Login Loginowitsch (1806–1901), also served in the Russian Navy (admiral from 1861) and was also the main commander in chief of the Reval port. The youngest son, Fyodor (1821–1900) was General and Governor General of the Grand Duchy of Finland .
