London boys
The London Boys were a 1981 close to 1996 by Hamburg -based dance-pop - duo consisting of Edem Ephraim (* 1. July 1959 , London , † 21st January 1996 , Austria ) and Dennis Fuller (* 19th June 1959 in Jamaica , † January 21, 1996 in Austria).
Emergence
The artists attended a school in Greenwich near London , where they met each other. In 1986 the two founded the London Boys and sang for the songwriter and music producer Ralf-René Maué . Their music style was a mixture of soul and disco , at times also Euro Disco . The video clips contain lots of lively dance interludes and choreographies .
successes
With the debut single I'm Gonna Give My Heart , the duo did not yet make their commercial breakthrough, but had a respectable success and was played by several radio stations. It wasn't until two years later, in December 1988, that the single Requiem made it into the English charts . The song rose to number 4 and was awarded silver . In the summer of 1989 Requiem was also in the German (No. 27) and Austrian charts (No. 11). The follow-up single London Nights was able to build on the success of its predecessor, reached number two in the UK in late summer and was also honored with a silver record. The song was also a hit in Germany (24th place) and Switzerland (9th place). The accompanying debut album The Twelve Commandments of Dance stayed in the British album charts for 29 weeks and climbed to number 2 - it was platinum .
In the fall of 1989 the London Boys had another hit in England when Harlem Desire rose to the top 20. By January 1991, the singles My Love , Chapel of Love and Freedom could only reach middle positions in the UK charts. Under the name Soul Kitchen feat. London Boys was released in 1991 by Sweet Soul Music . The song jumped to 11th place in Austria in autumn of that year. Two years later, Baby Come Back , a cover version of The Equals classic, rose to number 27 and was the London Boys' last chart hit. In total, the duo sold over 4.5 million records .
Demise
On January 21, 1996, the two artists, as well as Edem's wife and a DJ friend from Hamburg, went on a skiing holiday together. On a winding road section in the Austrian Alps, they were hit head-on by an oncoming vehicle whose driver was in an overtaking maneuver in a blind spot. All four occupants and the Swiss who caused the accident died at the scene of the accident. Edem Ephraim and his German wife Bettina left behind a three year old son. Dennis Fuller's daughter was ten years old at the time.
