Lorenz Rerup

Lorenz Christian Rerup (born April 15, 1928 in Flensburg , † December 9, 1996 in Sønderborg ) was a Danish historian .

Live and act

After attending school in Flensburg, doing military service and visiting Rødding Højskole (1947/48), Lorenz Rerup studied history in Odense and at the University of Copenhagen . Here he graduated in 1963 with the academic degree of mag. art. from. From 1963 to 1965 he was head of the study department of the Danish Central Library for South Schleswig in Flensburg. From 1966 to 1972 he taught history at Aarhus University as a lecturer . In 1972 he was appointed professor of recent and modern history at the newly founded University of Roskilde . He taught here until 1994. In 1982 and 1989 he was visiting professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . From 1994 until his death in 1996 he was the Danish Consul General in Flensburg.

The main research areas of Rerup were the recent history of Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein , nationalism and the German-Danish minorities in the Schleswig border region .

His grave is in the Flensburg mill cemetery .
