Lorenzo Nina
Lorenzo Nina (born May 12, 1812 in Recanati , Papal States ; † July 25, 1885 in Rome ) was Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
biography
Nina was born the son of the notary Angelo Nina in Recanati in the Marche region . His father's legacy was sufficient to enable him to pursue a career in the church. He began his training at the seminary of Recanati with studies in literature, philosophy and theology, then he settled in Rome, where he lived with his uncle Giovanni Nina, who was canon and pastor at the Church of San Lorenzo in Damaso and was a decisive influence on exercised his nephew.
Lorenzo Nina studied at the Pontifical Seminary of Sant'Apollinare and at La Sapienza University , from which he graduated with a doctorate in theology and iuris utriusque . With 22 years Nina 1835 received under a dispensation from the requirement of canonical age , the ordination . During the Roman cholera epidemic of 1837 he worked as a pastor in his uncle's community and became infected while exercising the pastoral care of the sick. In 1853 he became an honorary professor at the Law Faculty of the Seminario Romano , later he became Prefect of the Pontifical Athenaeum of Sant'Apollinare . He was a member of the commission for the preparation of the First Vatican Council . From 1875 to 1877 he was prefect of studies at the Seminario Romano .
On March 12, 1877 Lorenzo Nina was from Pope Pius IX. as Cardinal Deacon with the title deaconry Sant'Angelo in Pescheria in the Cardinal College added. In the same year, on October 19, he became prefect of studies of the Roman Curia . He was a participant in the conclave of 1878 , which Pope Leo XIII. chose. On August 9, 1878, he took over the post of Cardinal Secretary of State , which he held until 1880. Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on February 28, 1879 cardinal priest with the titular church Santa Maria in Trastevere . From November 7, 1881 until his death he held the office of prefect of the Council Congregation .
Lorenzo Nina died on July 25, 1885 at 10:15 p.m. in his apartment in Rome after receiving the sacraments . He was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery.
