Lodovico Jacobini

Lodovico Jacobini , also called Ludovico Jacobini or Luigi Jacobini , (born January 6, 1832 in Genzano di Roma near Rome , † February 28, 1887 in Rome) was Cardinal of the Roman Church and Papal Secretary of State .
Life
With 22 years Jacobini received after his training in the seminary of Albano which at September 23, 1854 ordination . Afterwards Jacobini received the post of secretary of the Congregation of the Oriental Rites at an early age . During the First Vatican Council he was by Pope Pius IX. appointed undersecretary. On March 24, 1874 he received the dignity of titular archbishop of Thessaloniki. He was ordained bishop on March 24, 1874 in the Lateran Basilica by Cardinal Costantino Patrizi , cardinal dean and cardinal bishop of Ostia e Velletri ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Pietro de Villanova Castellacci and Antonio Rossi Vaccari . On March 27, 1874, he was sent to the Viennese court as papal nuncio .
His winning personality and his social talents soon made him popular here, and he also knew how to accommodate the Austrian government in ecclesiastical affairs to such an extent that in Austria, despite the new church laws, any conflict between the state and the Roman Curia was avoided. Therefore, Leo XIII commissioned him . also with the conduct of the equalization negotiations with the Prussian government, which however were broken off in 1880 for various reasons.
On September 19, 1879 Jacobini became a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria della Vittoria . On December 16, 1880, after Nina's resignation, he was given the important office of State Secretary of the Papal Curia , but died on February 28, 1887 in Rome.
