Loretta di Lelio , married Loretta Corelli and Loretta di Lelio-Corelli (born July 27, 1918 in Montecatini Terme , Tuscany ; † January 10, 2013 in Milan ) was an Italian opera singer who specializes in lyrical soprano , vocal teacher and bel canto expert.

Life

Loretta di Lelio was trained as a singer and educationalist by her father, the Italian opera singer Umberto di Lelio , who was engaged at La Scala in Milan between 1921 and 1941 . Umberto di Lelio was a well-known Italian singing teacher and bel canto expert who taught fellow singers at La Scala in Milan. He was part of a national and international group of artists, in which his daughter Loretta was included.

In 1941 she made her debut at the Rome Opera House , where she was cast as soprano lyrico and occasionally took on small mezzo-soprano parts in the Italian operas La traviata , Il trovatore , Un ballo in maschera and others.

In the late 1940s and early 1950s she became known through numerous engagements in emerging opera films, including in the film adaptations of Donizetti's operas Der Liebestrank as Giannetta and Lucia di Lammermoor as Alisa.

During an engagement in the opera production Adriana Lecouvreur in the role of Mademoiselle Juvenot, she met the young tenor Franco Corelli during rehearsals in 1952 .

Loretta di Lelio then became the main support of her future husband, the Italian spinto tenor and dramatic tenor, Franco Corelli. She ended her own singing career in 1957 and worked as a manager, vocal coach and most important advisor to her husband. Franco Corelli died in 2003 after a serious illness.
