Lothar Eissmann

Lothar Eißmann (born September 8, 1932 in Hartmannsdorf near Kirchberg , † July 4, 2019 in Leipzig ) was a German geologist . He was a professor at the University of Leipzig .

Life

From 1951 Eißmann studied geology at the University of Greifswald . In 1962 he received his doctorate and in 1970 he completed his habilitation at the University of Halle . From 1959 he was department head for geological exploration and research in Halle and Freiberg , from 1981 to 1992 scientific curator.

He researched in particular the geology of Saxony and especially the Quaternary (Ice Age).

Honors

In 2000 Eißmann received the Hans Stille Medal . Since 1991 he has been a member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences . In 1990 he received the Albrecht Penck Medal of the German Quaternary Association and in 2003 the Serge von Bubnoff Medal . In 1962 he received the Kurt Pietzsch Prize and in 2015 the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to the geosciences in Leipzig and Central Germany .
