Lothar Possner

Lothar Poßner (born October 4, 1896 in Ziegenrück , Ziegenrück district , Prussia ; † August 26, 1972 in Güglingen , Baden-Württemberg ) was a German mechanical engineer and university professor.

Life

Possner attended the municipal secondary school in Pößneck , became a soldier in the First World War in 1915 and was seriously wounded in British captivity in 1917. After his discharge he studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University in Darmstadt and received his doctorate in 1925 with a thesis on free balloons . He worked as a designer in the fields of heat engineering and aircraft construction, from 1943 as a lecturer at various engineering and technical schools and in 1954 was appointed professor with a full teaching assignment at the University of Electrical Engineering in Ilmenau (now the Technical University of Ilmenau ), where he worked until his In 1961 he retired as head of the Institute for Mechanical Engineering. He published numerous papers on questions of kinematics and statics in mechanical engineering.
