Lothar Udo I. (Nordmark)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lothar Udo I. (* after 994; † November 7, 1057 ) was Count of Stade from 1036 to 1057 and Margrave of the North Marks from 1056 .

Life

Lothar Udo was the only son of Count Siegfried II von Stade from the House of Udonen and Adela von Alsleben, daughter of Count Gero von Alsleben . He followed his father in 1037 and became Count of Stade and in Largau , Steiringgau , Schwabengau and Hochseegau and Vogt of Heeslingen and Alsleben . The original domain of the Counts of Stade was on the lower Elbe around Harsefeld and Stade . However, as a result of a marriage that was concluded in the 1st third of the 11th century, they also owned goods and rights in eastern Saxony.

Udo was in conflict with the Bremen Archbishops Adalbrand and Adalbert over bailiwick and count rights. In 1052/53 he killed his distant cousin Ekbert von Elsdorf-Stade and inherited him. In 1044 Wilhelm , son of Count Bernhard II von Haldensleben , became the new Margrave of the Nordmark. In 1056, in the battle of Pritzlawa ( Havelberg ), the Saxon army was defeated by the Slavic Lutizen . Wilhelm fell and Emperor Heinrich III. enfeoffed Lothar Udo I. with the Nordmark . In addition, he inherited the counties and bailiwicks of the House of Haldensleben. This imperial fief in the Saxon Nordmark strengthened the position of the Udons in this area. Otto, son of Bernhard II, who rebelled against this decision, was slain by the Brunones on June 26, 1057 near Haus-Neindorf an der Selke . Lothar Udo led another campaign of revenge against the Liutizen in 1057 .

family

Lothar Udo was married to Adelheid, probably a Countess of Oeningen and daughter of Count Kuno of Oeningen. Probably their only child was Lothar Udo II.
