County of Haldensleben

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The county of Haldensleben was a medieval county in what is now Saxony-Anhalt ; The main town was Haldensleben in the early medieval northern Thuringia .

In 966 , hahaldeslevo was first mentioned in a document in which Emperor Otto I enfeoffed a certain Mamaco with the county of Haldensleben.

The family of the Lords or Counts of Haldensleben was enfeoffed several times with the area of the Nordmark east of the Elbe. However, they could never exercise this rule, since the area had no longer belonged to the rulership of the Holy Roman Empire since 983.

In 1057 the Counts of Haldensleben died out in the male line. Gertrud von Haldensleben († 1116) was the grandmother of Emperor Lothar III.
