Lothar von Seebach
Lothar von Seebach (born March 26, 1853 in Fessenbach , † September 23, 1930 in Strasbourg ) was a German painter and etcher .
Life
Baron Lothar von Seebach came from the old Thuringian noble family of the von Seebach . At the age of 19 he began studying art at the Karlsruhe Academy . In 1875 he followed his parents to Strasbourg, where his father had gone as an officer after the end of the Franco-Prussian War .
In the following 25 years he went on study trips to England, Berlin and Paris, where he was influenced by the Fauves . He turned down offers of professorships in Karlsruhe and Strasbourg. In 1921 he left Strasbourg and stayed at Lake Constance and in Frankfurt am Main . Then he lived with his brother in Fessenbach . He later returned to Strasbourg and there joined the artist group Cercle de Saint-Léonard .
In Robertsau , in the north of Strasbourg, a street is named after him. In 2000 a memorial plaque was placed on the house where he was born in Fessenbach.
