Carl Hermann Eberstein

Carl Hermann Eberstein (born November 20, 1829 in Hamburg ; † October 19, 1885 there ) was a German lawyer .

Life

After attending school at the Johanneum in Hamburg, Eberstein was enrolled on April 29, 1846 to study law at Heidelberg University. In 1848 he interrupted his studies to take part in the uprising in Berlin and the revolution in Baden . After that, Eberstein had been enrolled in Heidelberg again since April 21, 1849, and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. He was enrolled as a lawyer in Hamburg on June 28, 1850 and was admitted as such until 1869.

He worked as an editor for the Hamburger Nachrichten and the newspaper Reform . For the Hamburger Nachrichten he worked on "internal politics", "communal affairs" and the "Vaterstädtischen Blätter".

Eberstein served in the Hamburg citizen military . There he was from 1858 to 1866 Captain of the 2nd  Company of the 5th  Infantry - Battalion . In 1867 he was 1st  major and chief of this battalion.

From 1859 to 1869 Eberstein was a member of the Hamburg parliament as a member. He was from 1862 to 1868 a member of the citizens' committee and from 1863 to 1865 secretary of the citizenship. From 1869 until his death, Eberstein served as secretary of the citizens' committee (from 1881 secretary of the citizenship), Wilhelm Heyden was his successor in this office. In addition, he was from 1864 to 1866 a member of the central commission for general elections to the citizenship and from 1876 to 1885 school caretaker.
