Lotte Berger
Lotte Berger married. Ellgaard (born April 3, 1907 in Plauen , † May 14, 1990 in Kiel ) was a German actress of the 1930s. She was mainly active in northern Germany.
Life
Lotte Berger grew up in a simple family. When she was 18 years old, she secretly took evening acting classes. She began her theater career at the city theater in Plauen in the subject “young naive”. She worked at various theaters in northern Germany, in 1931 she came to Rostock and in 1933 to Memel am Kurischen Haff (today Lithuania ). In 1934 she came to the Stadttheater in Kiel (today Theater Kiel ), where she developed into a character actress .
Over the years she played many leading roles in Kiel under Hanns Schulz-Dornburg, who was newly appointed general manager for the 1935/1936 season . She was especially known for the title role in the play The Primanerin . Her colleagues included actors Dieter Borsche , Willi Fritsch , Hans Christian Blech and Inge Meysel, who later became known through film and television . On January 23, 1939, she gave her farewell performance in Kiel. In the same year she married the draftsman Helmuth Ellgaard , whom she had met at the theater, where he worked as a set designer ; the marriage had two sons, Peter (1940) and Holger (1943).
After 1939 she did not manage to get a theater engagement again. She was now a housewife at the side of her husband Helmuth Ellgaard. Lotte Berger died at the age of 83 in a nursing home in Kiel. She and her husband are buried in the cemetery in Heikendorf .
In a short obituary, the Kieler Nachrichten wrote on May 23, 1990, among other things: “In Kiel she impressed her theater audience. [...] Her colleagues included Inge Meysel, Willi Fritsch and Dieter Borsche. "
