Louis Blanc is an underground transfer station of the Paris Métro . It is served by lines 7 and 7bis .

location

The two -station underground station is located on the border of the Quartier de l'Hôpital-Saint-Louis and the Quartier Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in the 10th arrondissement of Paris . The western station is located lengthways under Rue La Fayette , the eastern station under Rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin.

Surname

It is named after the Rue Louis Blanc crossing there. The politician and historian Jean-Joseph-Charles-Louis Blanc (1811-1882) was a member of the provisional government in 1848 . His work Organization du travail of 1839 inspired the founding of the Socialist Party . From 1848 to 1870 he lived in exile in London .

history

On November 5, 1910, the first section of line 7 from Opéra to Porte de la Villette went into operation. The Louis Blanc underground station was opened on November 23, 1910, until then the trains went through without stopping.

The branch line of line 7 from Louis Blanc to Pré-Saint-Gervais was put into operation on January 18, 1911 and initially operated autonomously. After a few months, operations were changed so that the trains on line 7 ran from Opéra to Louis Blanc, and from there alternately on the two branches to Pré-Saint-Gervais and Porte de la Villette. This form of operation lasted until December 3, 1967. From that day on, the route to Pré-Saint-Gervais was operated separately again - due to the much higher number of passengers on the other branch - and was given the current line designation 7bis. Louis Blanc thus changed from a separation station to a transfer station.

description

The underground station consists of two separate stations that are connected to each other by a pedestrian tunnel at their north heads. They lie to one another like two blades of slightly opened scissors , with the adjacent crossing structure corresponding to their joint. Both stations are 75 m long and lie under elliptical , white tiled vaults. Deviating from the norm, they each have a side and a center platform on two tracks . The two side platforms are currently not in use.

The western station "Louis Blanc supérieur" serves the trains of the line 7 in the direction of the southern endpoints Villejuif - Louis Aragon and Mairie d'Ivry . In addition, the arriving trains on line 7bis end there, and passengers can change to line 7 via the central platform. At the eastern station "Louis Blanc inférieur" the trains of line 7 in the direction of La Courneuve - 8 May 1945 stop .

In order to reach the latter station, the 7bis trains originally arriving in "Louis Blanc supérieur" changed the direction of travel and reached the main line in the direction of Pré-Saint-Gervais via an operating track. There they returned again and drove onto the eastern track of the “Louis Blanc inférieur” station. Passengers could change trains there across the platform. This maneuver has not been carried out for several years due to the technical unreliability of the new trains. The 7bis trains are now also departing from their arrival track at the “Louis Blanc supérieur” station. The eastern track of the “Louis Blanc inférieur” station is no longer used during normal operation.

North of the subway station, the track in the direction of La Courneuve - 8 May 1945, line 7 passes under the Pré-Saint-Gervais track and the above-mentioned. Operating track "Z" on line 7bis. The tracks of the two lines join to the south of the stations, and the two single-track tunnels meet again at the following station, Château-Landon .

The only entrance has been preserved in the original and has been a listed building since 1978. Hector Guimard designed the type in 1900 in the style of Art Nouveau .

vehicles

Conventional five-car trains of the MF 77 series run on Line 7 . Between 1971 and 1979 trains of the MF 67 series ran there , before that of the Sprague-Thomson type .

In July 1980, the Sprague-Thomson trains that had been running on line 7bis, which last only ran there with four cars, were replaced within a few weeks by those of the MF 67 series. The MF 67 "F" initially ran in the classic configuration as five-car trains and were later replaced by four-car trains from the "E" series. Since January 1994, the short 7bis line has been the only one in the Paris Métro network that - after a transition period until December 30, 1994 - is used exclusively by the MF 88 series, which has just nine three-car trains .
