Louis Delvaux

Louis Jean-Baptiste Delvaux (born October 21, 1895 in Orp-le-Grand , † August 24, 1976 in Jodoigne ) was a Belgian lawyer , journalist and politician .

Legal career

After studying law, Delvaux received his doctorate in law in 1922. He then worked as a lawyer in Leuven and later in Nivelles . After his return from politics, he worked as a lawyer again between 1946 and 1949. Delvaux then worked as a judge , initially at the ECSC Court of Justice, the forerunner of the European Court of Justice, where he worked from December 4, 1952 to October 6, 1958. He then ended his legal career as a judge at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg from October 7, 1958 to October 8, 1967.

Public offices

In 1936 he went into politics and, as a member of the Belgian Catholic Party, was a member of the arrondissement of Nivelles in the Belgian Chamber of Deputies , which he remained until 1946. In 1945 he was Belgian Agriculture Minister leaves until 1946 the policy again. In 1949 he again took up public office when he became chairman of the administrative board of the forced administration office, where he worked until 1953. He also worked as auditor for the Belgian National Bank and as manager of the National Society for Small Land Ownership until March 1953.

Journalistic activity

Delvaux was a journalist from 1931 to 1940 and 1944/1945. He wrote for the newspapers “ Le Vingtième Siècle ”, “ Le Soir ” and “ La cité ”.
