Louis III de Lorraine-Guise (born January 22, 1575 in Lorraine , † June 21, 1621 in Saintes ) was Archbishop of Reims and Cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the third son of Henri I de Lorraine and his wife Catherine de Clèves and brother Charles' de Lorraine , Duke of Guise.

The layman - he never received a holy ordination  - was by King Ludwig XIII. nominated by France as coadjutor archbishop. With the death of Archbishop Philippe du Bec on January 10, 1605, he was succeeded as Archbishop- Elekt .

With a dispensation from Pope Paul V , he married Charlotte des Essarts on February 4, 1611 , who bore him five children. His first son Charles Louis († July 12, 1668) became Bishop of Condom .

In the consistory on December 2, 1615 he was created cardinal priest, but he never went to Rome to receive the red Galero and the Capa Magna .

Archbishop-Elekt died after a short illness on June 21, 1621 and was buried in Reims Cathedral.
