Lu Yongxiang

Lu Yongxiang ( Chinese  路甬祥  /  路甬祥 , Pinyin Lù Yǒngxiáng , W.-G. Lu Yung-hsiang ) (born April 28, 1942 in Zhejiang ) is a Chinese engineer and science manager. He was President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1997 to 2011 .

Lu graduated from Zhejiang University and RWTH Aachen University, and received his doctorate in 1981. He is a co-founder of the Aachen- Ningbo city ​​partnership .

From 1985 to 1987, Lu was Vice President of Zhejiang University , and from 1988 to 1995 President of Zhejiang University. He was appointed vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in November 1993 . In June 1994, he was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering . In July 1997, he was appointed president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences . Lu was also elected President of the Society of Chinese Humboldtians and President of the Association of Chinese Academics from Germany and Austria.

Lu Yongxiang has also been a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina since 2005 .
