Lubo D'Orio
Lubo D'Orio (actually Lubomir Wapordjeff , born February 17, 1904 in Sofia ; † July 11, 1983 in Berlin ) was a Bulgarian musician ( alto saxophone , clarinet ) and orchestra conductor who worked from the 1930s to the mid-1970s in the swing and dance music was active.
Live and act
From 1931 D'Orio lived in Berlin, where he played in the orchestras of Bernard Etté , Juan Llossas , Georges Boulanger , Gustav Gottschalk , Fritz Weber , Günther Herzog and Pat Bonen . In 1934/35 and 1936/37 he worked with Eugen Wolff (recordings for Odeon ) and around 1939 in Max Rumpf's orchestra (until its quasi-dissolution by the Nazi regime ). From 1940 he directed his own orchestra, which included Helmut Zacharias ; it also performed in the Berlin café Uhlandeck.
After the end of the war, D'Orio put together his own band again and joined a. a. in American soldiers and officers clubs. With his own orchestra, the u. a. Bob Henders , who belonged to Macky Kasper , began in 1947 to record cover versions of popular swing and jazz standards for Electrola such as In the Mood , Moonlight Serenade , Limehouse Blues , Caledonia, Temptation or Over the Rainbow as well as daily hits such as Amor, Amor, Amor or Maria from Bahia . In the field of jazz he was involved in 56 recording sessions between 1936 and 1956.
In the mid-1950s, D'Orio shifted to big band adaptations of well-known American rock 'n' roll titles, such as Mister Patton from Manhattan (Amiga 150592), a cover version of the rhythm and blues classic See You Later, Alligator and Teen- Ager (Amiga 50578), an adaptation of The Dan Terry Thing by band leader Dan Terry . On the 1956 EP Out of Edge and Band (Opera 4140) he presented a medley with big band arrangements of popular Bill Haley titles such as Rock Around the Clock , ABC Boogie or Mambo Rock . In 1956 he performed with his big band at the 3rd hit fair in the Ernst-Thälmann-Stadion in Potsdam. He remained active as a musician and band leader until 1975.
