Lubomír Dorůžka
Lubomír Dorůžka (born March 18, 1924 in Prague ; † December 16, 2013 there ) was a Czech musicologist and journalist.
Dorůžka wrote about jazz music in an underground magazine during World War II and the occupation of Czechoslovakia by German troops . After the Communist Party came to power in 1948, he worked as a translator for F. Scott Fitzgerald . After studying English, he received his doctorate in American literature in 1950. In the following years he published a number of books on jazz and pop music , including a biography on Karel Vlach ; He also produced the album Jazz V Československu for Supraphon in 1961 and was co-organizer of the Prague International Jazz Festival and the International Jazz Federation . He gave an overview of jazz in Czechoslovakia from 1945 to 1993 at the 3rd Darmstadt Jazz Forum . A lifelong friendship connected him with the writer and saxophonist Josef Škvorecký , with whom he edited several jazz publications.
