The Lucala ( Portuguese Rio Lucala ) is a right (northern) tributary of the Cuanza in Angola .

course

The river rises on a high plateau in the province of Uíge , directly on the border with the province of Cuanza Norte , about 15 km southeast of Negage . In its upper reaches it forms the border between the two provinces. From there it flows in a relatively straight line in a south-southeast direction. In the further course it forms the border between Cuanza Norte and the province of Malanje , which it later also flows through. After about half of its flow, it falls down the Kalandula Falls and turns almost at right angles to the west. The Lucala flows into the Cuanza about 1.5 km below Massangano .

Kalandula Falls

The Kalandula Falls

The Kalandula Falls ( Portuguese : Quedas de Kalandula ) are located on the upper reaches of the Lucala, about 80 km northwest of the provincial capital Malanje . The eponymous small town of Calandula is located about 5 km west of the waterfalls.
