Lucas Faydherbe
Lucas Faydherbe (born January 19, 1617 in Mechelen ; † December 31, 1697 ibid) was a Brabant sculptor and architect of the Dutch Renaissance .
Life
Lucas Faydherbe was a son of the Mechlin alabaster carver Hendrik Faydherbe (1577-1640). In 1636 he went to Antwerp to study with Peter Paul Rubens . In 1640 he had to return to his hometown to marry his pregnant fiancée Maria Sneyers. In the same year he opened his own workshop there as a master . In addition to building drafts, his work included high altars and tombs for churches. In 1658 he considered moving to Brussels , probably because he was hoping for more orders there; however, his application for citizenship in Brussels was unsuccessful and he stayed in Mechelen. He died at the age of eighty, four years after his wife, and was buried in the cathedral of Mechelen .
