Andreas Cruesen
Andreas Cruesen (also Andreas Creusen ; * 1591 in Maastricht ; † November 8, 1666 in Brussels ) was a theologian and archbishop .
Life
Cruesen, the son of the later Mayor of Maastricht Hubert Creusen, attended the Latin school in Maastricht and the Jesuit school there . He went on to Rome , where he continued his education at the Collegium Germanicum at St. Apollinaris . His promotion to Doctor of Theology took place at the University of Vienna . He was appointed advisor and Imperial Councilor under the German Emperor Ferdinand II and Grand Chaplain for the Imperial Army in the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary in Vienna .
Cruesen returned to the Netherlands in 1630 and, at the instigation of the emperor, was canon at Cambrai Cathedral . In 1640 he was appointed Archdeacon of Brabant .
On May 22, 1651 Cruesen became the bishop of Roermond chosen on 23 July of the same year took place the episcopal ordination . On September 6, 1656, he was finally appointed Archbishop of Mechelen , and was consecrated on April 9, 1657.
He was buried in the cathedral of Mechelen in an opulent tomb created by Lucas Faydherbe .
