from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lucas Schickhardt (born February 9, 1560 in Herrenberg ; † September 7, 1602 "abroad") was a Württemberg carpenter and foreman. He was a son of the cabinet maker of the same name , a brother of the master builder Heinrich Schickhardt and the theologian Philipp Schickhart , and the father of the later professor Wilhelm Schickard .

Life

Professionally, Lucas Schickhardt followed in his father's footsteps and not only learned the trade from him, but also took over the grandfather's business. He carved several pictures for the Herrenberg collegiate church . At times he worked for his older brother Heinrich, z. B. in the measurement of the Neckar because of the planned navigation between Heilbronn and Cannstatt and in solving the problems with the Herrenberger Oberen See at the Nufringer Tor. After the early death of his first wife, unknown by name, he married for the second time on December 1, 1590: Margaretha Gmelin (* December 12, 1567; † September 22, 1634), a daughter of Pastor Wilhelm Gmelin from Gärtringen and an older sister of brother Wilhelm of the same name , also pastor in Gärtringen.

In 1596/97 he made two sights in Stuttgart together with a painter, Caspar Weiser, d. H. exact wooden models of planned structures.

Lucas and his second wife had a total of six children, of which only three (two sons and daughter Anna) survived their first year of life. His sons, Wilhelm and Lucas (born January 3, 1603; † March 31, 1651), who was born after his premature death, achieved social advancement: the first became a well-known professor in Tübingen, the other became “Rentkammer Expedition Council” in Stuttgart.
