Luciano Marangon (born October 21, 1956 in Quinto di Treviso ) is a former Italian football player. The simple national player celebrated his greatest successes in the jersey of Hellas Verona .

Career

Luciano Marangon was born on October 21, 1956 in Quinto di Treviso in northern Italy in the Veneto region. He learned to play football in the youth of Juventus Turin , where he signed his first professional contract for the 1974/75 season . However, this engagement went without commitment in the first team of the Italian record champions. In 1975 the young defender was transferred to Lanerossi Vicenza . With the traditional club, which has now slipped into Serie B , Marangon quickly developed into a regular player and established himself in the team of Lanerossi Vicenza. After relegation to the third division could only just be avoided in the first season, Vicenza presented itself much stronger in Serie B 1976/77 and at the end of all game days took first place with two points ahead of Atalanta Bergamo , which is the return to the Serie A meant. And there, coach Giovan Battista Fabbri's team was very convincing. Surprisingly, the team finished second in Serie A in 1977/78 and was only runner-up behind Juventus Turin. To this day, this result represents the greatest success of the club, long renamed Vicenza Calcio , in the first Italian league. Just as quickly as Lanerossi Vicenza's rise to runner-up came, it went downhill again just as quickly. Just a year later, they were relegated from Serie A. With fifth place, the return to the highest level of Italian club football was missed in the following second division season. After the end of the 1979/80 season, Luciano Marangon Lanerossi left Vicenza. Previously, he had played 128 league games for his club in five years, scoring five times.

From 1980 to 1981 Marangon then played for SSC Napoli and made 26 games in Serie A here, one goal never jumped out. With third place, a very good position was achieved in the final ranking. After this one season, Luciano Marangon moved to AS Roma , where he also played 26 league games in Serie A in 1981/82 . In the end, third place was again taken. During this time, Luciano Marangon's only international match for the national team of his home country took place . Against the selection of the GDR , it set on April 14, 1982 in Leipzig a 0-1 defeat in the preparatory game for the ultimately victorious World Cup in Spain the following summer . After that, Marangon was no longer used in the national team.

In the summer of 1982, Luciano Marangon joined the first division promoted from Hellas Verona . There the defender experienced three extremely successful years. Coach Osvaldo Bagnoli's team reached the final of the Coppa Italia twice in a row in the 1982/83 and 1983/84 seasons , but was inferior to both Juventus Turin and AS Roma. At league level they came fourth as a promoted team and established themselves surprisingly strong in Serie A. Only three years after their promotion, Hellas Verona played the most successful season in the club's history. With players like the German Hans-Peter Briegel , the Dane Preben Elkjær Larsen or goalkeeper Claudio Garella , the club secured first place in the 1984/85 Serie A after thirty match days with a lead of four points over Torino Calcio . Hellas Verona provided the most stable defense in the league with only nineteen goals, which can also be seen as a credit to Luciano Marangon.

As the reigning Italian champion, Luciano Marangon Hellas Verona returned in the summer of 1985 after three years and 82 league appearances with two goals. Both hits fell on the final phase of the championship season and were therefore of great importance. For two years he went to Inter Milan , where he was on the pitch 22 times in Serie A until 1987 without hitting the opposing goal. In 1987, Luciano Marangon finally ended his footballing career at the age of 31.
