action

Maggy lives in Berlin . She is 18 years old and lives with her daughter Lucy with her mother Eva. Lucy is 8 months old. However, Maggy is still very young herself and finds it difficult to deal with the responsibility of a mother. She didn't finish school and she doesn't want to know anything more about her child's father. If her mother Eva did not support her, her life would be even more bleak than it already was. So Maggy can at least arrange to go to the disco with her friend from time to time. During one of these nights she meets Gordon and falls in love with the young man. Gordon stands on his own two feet, works and has his own apartment, although he is only a little older than Maggy.

Maggy sees an opportunity for a new future in the fresh relationship. She and Lucy move in with Gordon, which leads to an argument with her mother, who is suddenly jealous and has developed a closer relationship with the young child than she would actually like to admit. At first Maggy, Lucy and Gordon live together harmoniously and a small family seems to develop. But then the responsibility becomes too heavy for Gordon too. He prefers to meet up with his friends and enjoy life. Maggy remains alone with Lucy again.

Reviews

  • Lexicon of international film : An attentive, closely observing film as "education sentimentale", which impresses with its great precision in relation to the milieu and the nuanced play of the young leading actress. The camera creates an almost documentary intensity and closeness to the characters.
  • Die Zeit : Winckler's view of the young people, their most printed language and sluggish physicality has an incredible sense of security. With a keen sense for mood changes, for the all-important silence between the sparse dialogues, he feels Lucy's merely superficial lack of events. In doing so, he comes across precisely those places where the drama of puberty intersects with that of a difficult motherhood.
