Ludovico de Torres (Salerno)

Ludovico de Torres , also Luis de Torres , (* 1494 in Málaga , Spain , † August 13, 1553 in Rome , Italy ) was Archbishop of Salerno .

Life

Ludovico de Torres came from a Spanish noble family. His father Hernando had received the title of "regidor perpetuo" of the city of Malaga . He came to Italy as a result of the Italian wars from Charles V and was secretary to Pope Paul III. He helped his nephew of the same name, Ludovico de Torres, into the episcopate in Monreale .

De Torres was founded by Pope Paul III. appointed Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Salerno and was from December 19, 1548 to August 13, 1553 before the Archdiocese. On March 11, 1549 he received the episcopal ordination by Cardinal Juan Álvarez y Alva de Toledo OP .

In 1542 he had the Palazzo Lancelotti-Torres built on the south side of Piazza Navona in Rome . The palace has been in the family since its creation.

In the Catedral de la Encarnación in Malaga there is a bronze statue of Ludovico de Torres.
