Ludwig Adam Kelterborn (* 15. February 1811 in Hannover , † 6. June 1878 in Basel ) was a from Germany originating Swiss genre painter and caricaturist.

Born as the son of the shoemaker Friedrich Kelterborn, he married Augusta Margaretha Märklin in 1839. Kelterborn intended to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden , but after the death of his father was forced to choose the profession of designer of textiles for material reasons . From 1828 to 1831, he was in the Indienne -Textilfabrik in Mulhouse operates.

In 1831 he moved to Basel, where he taught as a drawing teacher at the drawing school from 1835 and at the city schools from 1837. One of his students was the later sculptor Ferdinand Schlöth . In addition to his educational activities, he created numerous genre paintings under the influence of the Nazarenes and Hieronymus Hess . He published his political cartoons in the 1830s.

Ludwig Adam Kelterborn was married to Auguste, née Märklin (1816–1894). Like his sons Gustav (1841–1908) and Julius (1857–1915), he found his final resting place in the Wolfgottesacker cemetery in Basel.
